Parking is the biggest challenge in plans to re-invent Brookvale

Brookvale Rotary Club congratulates Mayor Reagan and Northern Beaches Council’s new Economic Development Team for their initiative lunch event on 9th May 2018 at Brookvale Oval . The session attracted 150 local business people to an incredibly interactive Q&A session debating Future Directions for Brookvale.

Cr Regan and Senior Staff presented in detail Council’s Strategy for dramatic local changes in planning, transport and cultivation of new business opportunities.

This led to fruitful debate and agreement that Brookvale’s place as the major industrial hub for the peninsular must be retained and refined to meet the changing needs of local businesses, including emerging concepts such as micro breweries, activity centres and gyms, cafes and nightspots alongside essential service industries.

Parking in Brookvale emerged as the major issue which has not been resolved and Council need to seize the initiative with creating major public parking in any changes at Brookvale Oval.

As an architect working in Brookvale for 40 years, street parking has not improved, congestion is endemic and any extension of clearways along Pittwater Rd will create a crisis.

Brookvale needs more stations like the fantastic commuter car park at the new B-Line stop and Brookvale Oval will offer a once in a lifetime opportunity especially with the emergence of shop top and boarding house type housing. Facilities for bike and scooter parking will also be essential.

Local businesses will continue this debate with Brookvale Rotary Club at their fortnightly lunch meetings – all are welcome.
